Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fix the door myself?
Sure, anything is possible but if you have not had experience in fixing doors you may find: - spend a lot of time and money with no result - possibly break the glass - make it worse than it was before Will WD40 or spray lubricant fix my door? No, spraying may provide a short term fix but the real problem will still be there and it may be causing further damage. WD40 and other similar products are oily and will only mix with dirt and dust and create bigger problems. What can i spray on the tracks to help my door glide smoothly? We recommend using silicone spray also known as silicone lubricant. This can be purchased from general hardware stores and car supply shops. |
What is involved in fixing the sliding door or sliding window?
In most cases, the following applies: - dismantle and remove the sliding door or sliding window from the frame - remove and replace dmaged/worn roller wheels - repair/re-shape and clean the guide tracks - reassemble the sliding door or sliding window - realign the sliding door or window to the frame - make sure the door or window slides correctly and the locks or catches line up Will my sliding doors or windows need total replacement if they are very worn or damaged? No, almost 99% of the doors and windows we attend to are repairable. How should I clean the guide tracks? Use a small brush and vacuum to remove dust and dirt. Clean grease with warm soapy water only. |
Why do the guide tracks need to be reshaped?
Damaged and worn rollers create uneven tracks with edges that have sharp burrs and gouges, all of which will shorten the life of the rollers if not attended to. If the guide track is rough the sliding door or window may still not roll smoothly even with new rollers. Our technician will reshape the track to give the maximum life for your new rollers. Can I have new handles and locks fitted to my old doors? Yes, we can supply and fit handles and locks to give your old doors a modern look. Do you charge for quotes on repairs? No, all quotes are absolutely free. Do you install new doors or windows? No, but we can recommend other companies that can do this for you if required. |
